Mangalore, January 14: Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee celebrated the victory of their candidate in the recently held by election to the Tiruvail ward of Mangalore City Corporation.
DCC president B Ramanath Rai said that the people of the ward have sent a strong message to the BJP ruled civic body through by-poll result.
Congress backed Meera Ashok, who secured 1,830 votes, won the election with a margin of 463 votes. His opponent Hemalata Raghu Salian of BJP secured only 1367 votes. The election was held on January 10 and the result was announced on January 13.
The seat had fallen vacant after BJP backed independent corporator Jyoti Jayaprakash resigned.
