Mangalore, January 18: A two month old tiger cub the Dr Shivaram Karanth Biological Park at Pilikula near here, has been adopted by District In-Charge Minister Krishna J Palemar.
The cub is born out of tigress Nethravathi. Having come to inaugurate 'Nethravathi - Phalguni Jodukere Kambala' at Pilikula the Minister felt so much joy on seeing the cub that he offered Rs 1 lakh for its adoption. This cub will be named according to what the Minister suggests, said the director of the park H Jayaprakash Bhandary.
The tiger population at the park has risen to eight with the birth of this cub two months ago. Since last two months the cub has grown by drinking its mother's milk. For two to three months the tigress will not allow anyone go near the cub, he informed.
He also said that the park management is dependent on donors and philanthropists as it was not receiving deserved financial support from the government.
“The search is on for donors and adopters of all animals. Just recently one K J Shenoy has adopted an elephant by paying Rs 4 lakhs. Two years ago the same person had adopted three Lion cubs in the name of his son. They were named according to his suggestions”, he said.
