Manipal, January 20: Holding Udupi District administration responsible for the continuation of Ajalu tradition across the district, the Federation of Koraga Development Associations, Karnataka-Kerala on Thursday staged a dharna in front of the office of Udupi Deputy Commissioner, here.
In a memorandum submitted to to Deputy Commissioner Dr M T Reju the Federation President Susheela Nada alleged that there is a sheer violation of Karnataka Koragas (Prohibition of Ajalu Practice) Act 2000 and special notification of 2002 in the recent incident that took place at Inna of Karkala taluk.
She informed that in the Nemothsava, that was held on January 16 and 17 at Bakimaru field in Inna, Koraga community people were used to perform Ajalu practice.
Despite the fact that Karkala Tahsildar was requested to take action prior to the incident, the tradition was practised in the annual fair. The Tahsildar had informed that he has issued orders to the police. However, the police have ignored the issue and have failed to take measures, she alleged.

Suspension orders should be issued to PDO immediately citing the reasons of his failure to take action against the violation of the Act, she said and added that the Association will go on indefinite hunger protest if the district administration fails to take stern measures against the evil practice.
