Mangalore, January 21: The Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee on Friday staged a protest in the city against the alleged joint bid by BJP ruled Karnataka state government and police department to cover up the recent Pak flag hoisting issue.
The protest comes more than two weeks after seven Hindutva activists made confessions in the police custody that they had hoisted Pakistani national flag at the Tahsildar's office in Sindagi in order to create communal riots in the Bijapur district.
The agitators strongly urged the government to order a high level probe into the shocking incident, which had sparked unrest in north Karnataka's district spoiling the celebrations of New Year. They also demanded the police department to unmask the masterminds of the Sangh Parivar's master plan to portray minorities as traitors.
Addressing the protesters in front of the office of Deputy Commissioner here, Mulky-Moodbidri MLA Abhay Chandra Jain expressed concern over the 'dangerous silence' of the home ministry of the state over the issue.
District Congress Committee President B Ramanath Rai said that the government should take action against the anti-social elements which are disturbing peaceful society. “The unity and harmony of the nation which the Congress government has built in the nation should be preserved,” he said.
He also said that the entire Sangh Parivar was responsible for the Sindagi incident, as RSS and Sri Rama Sene were blaming each other in an escape bid.
KPCC Secretary Ivan D'Souza said that though the State police have succeeded in arresting a few Hindutva activists, who hoisted the Pak falg, they have not made it to the public the masterminds behind the incident. “By arresting a few Sri Ram Sene members, the police work is not over, but they should bring the masterminds to the fore,” he said.
Mangalore MLA U T Khader and former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty were among the protesters.
