Udupi, January 22: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has said that it was for Governor H R Bhardwaj to decide on the appointment of the Lokayukta.
Addressing presspersons at Adiudupi helipad here, Mr. Gowda said that the issue of appointing the Lokayukta was left to the Governor. Mr. Bhardwaj had sought certain clarifications, the government had given them. “The ball is now in the court of the Governor,” he said. Asked if the delay in the appointment of Lokayukta would not weaken the institution, Mr. Gowda said: “The government has not been lax on this issue.”
On airing of differences by Ministers in his Cabinet despite direction to the contrary by the top brass of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr. Gowda said: “Such statements have not come to my notice. There have been no such statements from any Minister in the past two days.” On criticisms by the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) to the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa's reported statement that he (Mr. Yeddyurappa) ran a circus and not a government for three years, Mr. Gowda said that he reacted only to those things which were essential.
On the delay in disposal of files related to the supporters of Mr. Yeddyurappa by the State government, Mr. Gowda said that these questions should be posed to those who had complained.
