Karwar, January 22: In a rare gesture of humanity and solidarity, the owners and workers of purse-seine boats, here, have decided not to resume the fishing activity until the recovery of the body of a drowned fisherman.
The joint operation by coastal security police, Indian navy and coast guard personnel to recover the body of fishermen Nityanand Harikantra, who had accidentally drowned in Arabian Sea on Friday while fishing near the Anjudeev Island in Karwar, has proved to be futile so far.
Interestingly, dozens of purse-seine boats have also engaged in the search operation.
It is suspected that the body might have struck in between boulders in the sea or washed away to a distant place.
Hundreds of purse-seine boats were seen anchored in the fisheries port here on Sunday.
“We are deeply saddened by the Friday's mishap. We are not going to resume the fishing activity till his body is recovered” said a purse-seine boat owner.
