Mangalore, January 24: Demanding an end to the casteist traditions being followed at Udupi based Sri Krishna Mutt, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has planned a protest rally in Udupi.
In a press release issued here, secretary of the Udupi district unit of CPI (M) K Shankar said that several like-minded organizations are expected to join the protest protest on January 26.
The protest is against the “pankti bheda” (separate seating arrangements for meals for Brahmins and non-Brahmins) and “jati bheda” (caste discrimination) existed in the mutt, the release said.
It said that 4,000 members of the CPI(M) from various parts of the State would participate in the procession from Ajjarkadu to Krishna mutt.
The procession would pass through Taluk Office Road, Court Road, Diana Circle, Kavi Muddana Road, Head Post Office Road and Kanakadasa Road before culminating at Sri Krishna mutt.
Leaders of the State unit of CPI (M) such as G V Srirama Reddy and G N Nagaraj would participate.
