Poojary smells Yeddy conspiracy behind Kalldka venom; says police can arrest Palemar too

January 25, 2012

Mangalore, January 25: Former union minister and Congress veteran B Janardhan Poojary has alleged that the venomous speech by RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat at recent Hindu Samajotsava in Uppinagady was a conspiracy aimed at overthrowing Chief Minister D V Sadanada Gowda government to reinstate BS Yeddyurappa as chief minister of Karnataka.

Addressing media persons at district Congress office here on Wednesday the senior leader opined that Mr Bhat's speech is a part of conspiracy hatched by Mr Yeddyurappa, who was longing to rule the state once again.

The untoward incidents and conspiracies to instigate communal riots have increased ever since Mr Gowda took over as the CM, observed Mr Poojary adding that the home district of the CM had witnessed many such incidents in recent months.

“Fresh attacks on churches in Dakshina Kannada other parts of the state, hoisting of Pakistani national flag at Sindagi by Sri Ram Sena and a series of provocative incidents and venomous speech in Uppinangady, Sullia and other parts etc are parts of this political conspiracy”, Mr Poojary said exhorting the incumbent CM to 'understand this fact'.

Stating that BSY's desire to return as CM has never subsided, Mr Poojari said that the former has resorted to unlawful methods to fulfil his dreams amidst the preparation for forthcoming elections.

He also advised the incumbent CM to understand the intention behind the rally of Sangh Parivar from Hampi to Hubli under the pretext of Hindu Shakti Sangam and take appropriate measures against the conspirators.

Police can arrest Palemar

Mr Poojary lashed out at Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar for justifying the venomous speech of RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat.

“I had some respect for district in-charge minister, but now I am disgusted”, he said criticizing the statements of Palemar, who had condemned the police for registering FIR against Mr Bhat.

Poojary went on to claim that police can arrest Palemar too for justifying communally provocative speech of Bhat.

Congress leaders Vijay Kumar Shetty, Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Harikrishna Bantwal, A C Bhandary, Arun Coelho, Bondala Jaganath Shetty, Mithun Rai, Praveen Chandra Alva and T K Sudhir were present at the press meet.

A new chapter is unfolding for football in Mangaluru as the football ground adjacent to Nehru Maidan receives a modern artificial turf, with completion expected by the end of May. This long-awaited upgrade promises to significantly enhance the playing experience for both budding and seasoned footballers in the region.

The project, spearheaded by Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL), involves laying synthetic turf across the 90,000 sq ft ground at a cost of ₹2.5 crore. Equipped with efficient drainage systems, the revamped ground will support uninterrupted play throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.

“This is a long-pending demand of the football community here,” said D.M. Aslam of the Dakshina Kannada District Football Association. “We expect the turf work to be completed in the next two weeks. Currently, around 150 children practice regularly at the ground, and we anticipate that number to rise once the new surface is open.”

MSCL General Manager (Technical), Arun Prabha K.S., noted that while the project had been planned for some time, groundwork officially began after last year’s monsoon league concluded in August. “Once completed, this facility will be a full-fledged synthetic turf suitable for training, local tournaments, and league matches,” he said.

With the inauguration expected soon after the final touches are completed, the new astro turf is set to elevate the city’s football infrastructure and serve as a springboard for talent development across the district.

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district has secured the top position in Karnataka in the SSLC (Class 10) results for the academic year 2024–25, with a pass percentage of 91.12%, as announced on Friday.

In the previous academic year (2023–24), the district had ranked second in the state with a higher pass percentage of 92.12%. Despite a 1% drop in the pass rate this year, the district has risen to the top position. In 2022–23, it had ranked 17th with 89.52%.

Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) Venkatesh S Patagar attributed the district’s improved rank to several focused initiatives. Among them were the timely completion of the syllabus by December 2024 and subject-wise special classes.

Special attention was given to slow learners through dedicated support classes. The department also organized fortnightly parent meetings to track students' academic progress.

To instill discipline and a consistent study routine, schools made regular wake-up calls to students in the mornings and evenings. Other initiatives included model question paper practice, the 'Jnana Sinchana' live YouTube series, online doubt-clearing sessions, and interactive radio phone-in programs.

Students were also encouraged to attempt the 'Vijayeebhava' question paper series, developed and published by the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Udupi.

Mangaluru, April 30: The Netravati bridge at Jeppinamogaru, which had been closed for repair works since March 19, is set to reopen for vehicular traffic from May 2, police commissioner Anupam Agrawal announced.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) confirmed that the bridge repairs are now complete. A new bearing has been installed in one of the bridge’s pillars, and all necessary structural maintenance has been carried out. Currently, the concrete curing process is in its final stages and is expected to conclude within the next two days, paving the way for the bridge to reopen as scheduled.

The closure of the old Netravati bridge had led to severe daily traffic congestion, as vehicles were diverted to the newly constructed parallel bridge on National Highway 66, where two-way traffic was temporarily permitted. Traffic jams were especially intense during peak morning and evening hours, causing vehicle queues that often stretched from Pumpwell and Kallapu to the Thokkottu flyover. Even emergency vehicles faced difficulties navigating through the gridlock.

To manage the situation, light vehicles heading towards Deralakatte and Konaje — or traveling towards Mangaluru from these areas — were diverted via the Harekala-Pavoor bridge. However, this alternate route also witnessed significant congestion during rush hours. As a result, many commuters, especially those traveling from Thokkottu, Talapady, and Kerala, were forced to start their journeys at least an hour earlier than usual.

The public had been urging authorities to expedite the repair works to ease traffic woes. With the bridge now ready to reopen, commuters can expect a significant improvement in traffic flow along the busy corridor from May 2 onward.
