Mangalore, January 26: The UAE Exchange Vintage and Classic Car Carnival named “Make Oldage a Smileage” was held to spread an awareness among the public about the need for caring aged parents and relatives at Nehru Maidan in Mangalore here on the occasion of Republic Day.
This is the eighth time that the carnival is being held in the city.
A fleet of vintage cars including 1946-Dodge Power Wagon Truck of Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, Veerendra Heggade were the cynosure of all eyes.
Around 40 vehicles moved approximately a distance of 20 kms from Nehru Maidan to Sulthan Bathery. Later, cars were parked for display in a corner of Nehru Maidan.
The other participants of the show include Girish, Hemraj from Moodbidri, Krishnappa Uchil, Anil Soans, Srinivas Kini, Rajavarma Ballal, Dr Ganapathi, Anand Pai, Naresh S S and Ravindranath Pai from Mangalore.
Interestingly, these vintage vehicles provided an opportunity for Krishna Palemar, district minister who inaugurated the rally to showcase his driving skills on some of these vehicles, including a 1939 Damf Kraft Wagen motorcycle of German make owned by Girish. Palemar, also drove the Ford A.
