Mangalore, January 31: The Supreme Court on Tuesday indefinitely postponed hearing a petition filed by The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd (CAMPCO) and other Arecanut marketing cooperative societies against a ban imposed by court on Gutka.
Campco and other marketing cooperative societies had impleaded themselves in this case urging the court to reconsider its stand given the implications for the Arecanut growers.
The apex court had accepted all the petitions including the one filed by the state government in favour of farmers in the last April. Special prosecutor K M Nataraj had appeared on behalf of the petition filed by the government.
More than 10 organizations including Campco, Mamcos, TSS and Gujarath Tobacco Association had filed petition in the court.
