Exporters' conclave in city on Feb 13

February 3, 2012

Mangalore, February 3: A conclave of all exporters of Karnataka will be organized by the Federation of Indian Exports Organisations (FIEO) in Mangalore on February 13, said its Regional Chairman Walter D'Souza.

Addressing a press meet at the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), here on Thursday, he said the Union Ministry for Corporate Affairs will collaborate with it for the meet, which would have a plenary session and a technical session.

Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Union Ministers for Corporate Affairs, Surface Transport, Commerce and Industry and the Karnataka Minister for Industry were expected to attend the event.

The FIEO will present “Karnataka Export Vision-2020”, a document on how Karnataka can increase its share in India's total exports from 6 per cent to 10 per cent. The organisation has a membership of over 15,000 exporters from India.

The technical sessions would be addressed by the Director-General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Secretary of Ministry of Surface Transport and Corporate Affairs, along with the Principal Secretary of Industry, Government of Karnataka. The meet will be held in association with Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), Udupi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI), North Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NKCCI), Karwar, and all other trade bodies of Karnataka, a press release said.

If India were to reach its export target of $ 500 billion in the financial year 2013-14 and if India's share of global exports had to double by 2020, then each State had to set a target so that the national target could be achieved, said Mr. D'Souza.

The Karnataka government has announced that Nandini milk will become ₹4 costlier per litre starting April 1, 2025. This is the second price hike this year.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Karnataka Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna and Animal Husbandry Minister K Venkatesh said the increase is meant to support dairy farmers by covering the rising costs of producing and processing milk.

Officials also said that:

>> The extra money from the price hike will go directly to the milk producers.

>> The earlier ₹2 price hike (announced on June 26, 2024) will be withdrawn.

>> The new price hike of ₹4 will apply to both 500 ml and 1-litre packets.
