Mangalore, February 6: “I became a writer and an orator because of the pressures applied on me by my brother Bannanje Ramacharya ,” said noted scholar Bannanje Govindacharya at a memorial function at Lions Bhavan in Brahmagiri on Sunday.
Mr. Govindacharya said his brother was responsible for his writing skills, while his father kindled independent thinking in him. He broke all customs in front of them. Bannanje Ramacharya was a person who had developed strong political consciousness.
District Kannada Sahitya Parishath president Ambathanay Mudradi presided over the function. Bannanje Govindacharya conferred Bannanje Ramacharya memorial award on senior journalists Damodar Aithal (former Kannada Prabha reporter), Chidambara Baikampady (former Kannada Prabha reporter), Manohar Prasad (Chief reporter of Udayavani), Mohammad Arif Padubidri (senior reporter at Vijaya Karnataka) and Seethalaxmi Karkikodi (sub editor, Vijaya Karnataka).
The award has been jointly established by Kapu Vidyaniketan Educational Institutions , Hiriadka K Satish Chandra Hegde memorial green park central school and Padumannur publications.
Journalist N. Gururaj, publisher Sarvajna Acharya , principal Sandhya Shetty and administrator of green park central school V K Udyavar were present . Shrinivas Nekkar and Rohini Yogish compered the programme.
