Mangalore, February 11: As part of anti-dowry campaign a visual documentary 'Urulu' was launched on Saturday at Patrika Bhavan here.
Produced by Shah Production, the documentary is based on problems of dowry faced by Muslim families in Karnataka and building a dowry free society. The problem of dowry is rampant in a section of Muslim community in this part of the country.
Releasing the VCD documentary, MSM Abdul Rasheed Sakhafi Zaini Kamil, South India President of SSF, said the fight against evils of the society must start from youths.
He said the documentary which contains the bitter realities of society was made by and for youths who should play a major role to build a dowry free society.
SB Darami, Secretary, Karnataka State Sunni Youth Association speaking on the occasion said that not only Muslims but all the communities in India have been the victim of dowry system.
He also said that the stringent legal action should be taken against the violators of anti-dowry law.
Umar UH, Founder, Career Guidance and Information Centre, Mangalore, said that the documentary is of 31 minutes is aimed at encouraging youths to fight against the dowry system, which is not only prohibited in Islam but also banned in India. It also creates awareness among the people against luxury marriages and dowry system, he said.
