Karwar, February 13: Two college students were washed away high tides of Arabian Sea on Monday in Honnavar taluk.
The deceased were Shankar Acharya (17) of Gundabala village in Honnavar taluk and Raghuveer Ramesh Naik (17) of Honnavar.
The tragedy occurred when the PU students were enjoying the sea waves. Three students were engulfed by a powerful when dozens of people were watching them. Among the trio, Subrahmanya Shankar Naik (17), a resident of Gundabalam, was miraculously rescued.
The fishermen, who witnessed the tragedy jumped to Sea and successfully rescued Subrahmanya.
The area, which is known for the vortex as river Sharavathi joins the Sea, has claimed several lives in the past.
They also fished out the dead body of Raghuveer after 20 minutes of search.
The survivor himself lodged a complaint in Manki police station.
