Bangalore, February 17: Minorities, especially Muslim youths should come forward and take up Civil Services Examinations and increase their number in bureaucracy, said Shantinagar MLA N A Harris.
He was speaking after felicitating meritorious students at an Eid Milan ceremony organised by The Bearys' Welfare Association in Bangalore recently.
Appreciating the rise of the level of education in the community, Harris said, “Conditions were bad a few decades ago. Education was not a priority, but due to the financial support from achievers in the community, we are progressing.”
“We must stop begging for handouts and unite instead of joining hands with parties who want to destroy the community.” he said
On the issue of the recent scandal involving three ministers who were caught watching porn during assembly session, he said, “We cannot go lower than this. Politics today is a disgrace and we are ashamed to call ourselves politicians.”
About 110 children received cash prize and and merit awards. The Beary of the Year Award was presented to social activist Usman Haji of Puttur.
Irfan Razaq, Chairman and Managing Director, Prestige Group, B M Farookh, Chairman and Managing Director, Fiza Group, Varghese Kurian, Chairman and Managing Director, Al-Namal Group, Bahrain and B A Moideen, Former Education Minister were present among others.
