Mangalore, February 25: Abdul, Wahid, the main accused in the sensational rape case of a 13-year-old girl has been remanded to judicial custody after he was produced before a judge in the city on Friday.
45-year-old Wahid was arrested on Thursday evening after he surrendered himself before city crime branch inspector Venkatesh Prasanna. Later, he was handed over to Mangalore North Police Station, where a team led by Inspector Vinay A Gaonkar conducting the investigation into the brutal rape case.
Following a day long interrogation the accused was produced before a judge. The accused is the son of Abdul Khader, resident of CM Building near Kandathpally mosque in Bunder area.
The other accused, Mubarak, is still absconding. However, it is gathered that police have secured information on whereabouts of Mubarak.
The development comes a week after a 13-year old girl lodged a complaint with Mangalore North Police Station accusing the duo of raping her for almost a year.
