Udupi, February 26: BJP candidate for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypoll Sunil Kumar filed his nomination here at DC office on Saturday.
He filed his nomination and handed over the nomination papers to DC Dr M T Reju. He was accompanied by his wife.
Speaking to media persons, Sunil Kumar informed that he filed the nomination Saturday as he felt it is an auspicious occasion. He strongly believed that if he files the nomination Saturday, it would bring success to the party, he added.
Meanwhile, electronic media and photographers were barred from covering the process of filing his nomination papers at DC Office. Hence, they argued with the DC for not allowing them to cover the process. The entire incident turned out to be mess leading to symbolic protest by the scribes before the DC office.
DC informed that he is unaware of the fact that media personnel are permitted to cover and shoot the sequence of candidates filing nomination papers. As per the rules laid down in the handbook for Returning Officer, it is said that overcrowding should be avoided.
“I asked one or two media people to shoot and take snaps, however the idea was not agreed by media people citing the reasons of competition. I have written to Election Commission to clarify the issue and I am awaiting their response. I will take the decision following Election Commission's reply,” he added.
