Kundapura, March 7: A mild tension prevailed in Gangolli village in Kundapura taluk after some miscreants threw stones at a Masjid and few houses in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code have been imposed on the village following the incident.
Superintendent of Police M.B. Boralingaiah has said that some miscreants were drunk and pelted stones between 10.30 p.m. and 11 p.m. at Gangolli. They threw bottles and stones at six nearby houses damaging the window panes, he said.
Mr. Boralingaiah visited the spot at 12.45 a.m. on Tuesday. A crowd of about 150 persons had gathered at the spot. He convinced the crowd that action would be taken against the miscreants.
“The violence at Gangolli is a purely local incident and has nothing to do with the forthcoming byelection for the Udupi-Chikmagalur parliamentary constituency,” he said.
He also said that the situation in Gangolli village is peaceful and under control. No untoward incident had been reported on Tuesday. Prohibitory orders would be in force till 7 p.m. on March 11,” he said.
Deputy Commissioner M T Reju also said that the situation is peaceful at Gangolli.
Meanwhile, police have arrested 15 miscreants on Tuesday. They were produced before the court, which had remanded them to judicial custody.
