Udupi, March 8: Congress leader B Janardhana Poojary on Wednesday said, though Congress did not get expected results in the UP assembly elections, it has improved its seat tally.
Admiring AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, Mr Poojary said, he has been successful in strengthening the Congress at the grass root level.
“If he continues to strengthen the party organization, Congress is sure to win the next 2014 general elections to Parliamentary seats”, he said.
Mr Poojary said though Congress came to power only in Manipura out of five states, the party had been successful in strengthening its vote percentage.
Congress' tally increased in UP and Punjab. It emerged as the single largest party in Uttarakhand. But lost in Goa. Whereas BJP's seats decreased in Punjab, UP and Uttarakhand.
“So there is no reason for BJP to smile”, Poojary added.
Replying a question on High Court quashing an FIR filed by Lokayuktha against Yedyurappa, Poojary said: “Unless he gets a clean chit in all the cases including land grab and de-notification cases, I hope that BJP high command would not make him the CM again”
KPCC Secretary MA Gafoor, Harikrishna Bantwal and others were present.
