Udupi, March 11: Congress and JD(S) governments in the state had only spent around Rs 30 crores each for the development of the minority community, where as BJP government has spent to the tune of Rs 300 crores. It spent over Rs 50 crores for the welfare of Christians, said Christian Development Corporation vice chairman and MLC from Anglo Indian constituency Derrick Fullinfaw.

Addressing press persons at Kunjibettu here on Sunday Mr Fullinfaw said it is the BJP government that came forward to build a Haj Ghar and released Rs 40 crore for the same. “Once completed it will be one of the finest Haj Ghars in India and truly a monument for the Muslims”, he added.

Mr Fullinfaw is a nominated MLA representing the Anglo-Indian community. He was appointed vice chairman of the CDC some months ago.

He said, “During the last two days we met many church priests and requested to support BJP candidate in this by election. They were happy with the development in Udupi over the past three and a half years and they appreciated the government. So development is the key issue in this election. When I asked so many Christians here, they responded saying that there was a lot of good work done and they expressed appreciation for the present chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda.”

Referring to the recent assembly elections, he said, "In Maharashtra, there was a clear indication that there are two national parties in this country. One is Congress which ruled for the last 55 years and the other the BJP. It is the fastest growing party in India and also in the states, in Karnataka and in undivided Dakshina Kannada,"

"On the other side," he continued, "Congress party is the fastest declining party in India, in all state, in Karnataka and in the coastal districts. About 20 years back, when they were ruling, all ministers from the coastal districts held the cabinet status. But today there is no status, because people, especially the minorities, have placed their trust in the BJP. Congress had been using the minorities and the weaker sections as their vote bank. At election time, they promised plenty of things. After the election, they forgot their promises. That is why people have lost faith in the Congress party. Today it is a cadreless party,"

He continued, "Today UPA's allies are involved in various shameful scams. But with the NDA allies in many states of India, everywhere development is going on smoothly. So people of these states rejected the UPA allies and supported the NDA allies. People started keeping faith in prime minster A B Vajapayee. People say the BJP is development; it is a progressive and disciplined party. The BJP is strongly promoting patriotism in this country, so we believe in nationalism."

"Our party believes in genuine secularism and the people are supporting the Bharatiya Janata party. It will win the by-election with a large majority. And our candidate Sunil Kumar is a young, dynamic and patriotic leader. We appeal to all minority leaders to support the BJP not for their own interest, but the main interest of the state," he also said.

Adding further, he said, "So many governments have ruled our state, but no one took interest in the development of Christian community. But the BJP government allotted Rs 50 crore through the Christian Development Corporation. The committee has been formed under the chairmanship of the chief minister, with 15 members from all parts of Karnataka for helping this corporation, and Christian people will receive the grant from this body,"

"We appeal to prime minister Manmohan Singh to follow the way of Karnataka government and allot separate share to Christian and Muslim communities. Union minority welfare minister Salman Khursheed violated the code of conduct at UP election time and spoke on the reservation for Muslims but people rejected that party in that region," he said.

Christian leader Gerald Fernandes Moodublle, Musamun Babu and Veeresh Martin were present at the press meet.

Mangaluru, Nov 3: Mangaluru police have apprehended two individuals connected to a major online purchasing scam, seizing assets worth ₹11.45 lakh. The suspects, Raj Kumar Meena (23) and Subhash Gurjar (27), hail from Rajasthan and are accused of fraudulently acquiring high-value electronics through deceptive orders.

Background of the Case

According to City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, the case began with a fraudulent order placed through an international e-commerce company. Using a false identity under the name "Amrith," the suspects ordered two high-end Sony cameras along with ten other items, directing the delivery to an address near the KSRTC bus stand in Mangaluru on September 21 at 4 p.m.

The Scam Unfolds

During delivery, Raj Kumar Meena received the items by providing a delivery OTP, while Subhash Gurjar reportedly distracted the delivery personnel. The suspects then executed a sticker-swapping tactic, replacing original Sony camera box labels with stickers from other items in the order to mislead the delivery team. Meena also intentionally provided an incorrect OTP, causing further confusion. The duo told the delivery agent they would collect the cameras the next day, then sent him away before cancelling the camera order.

Detection and Arrest

The unusual activity raised suspicions, and upon inspection, Amazon’s delivery partner, Mahindra Logistics, discovered the sticker swap and alerted Amazon. Subsequent investigations revealed that the suspects had taken the genuine cameras and left behind tampered boxes.

Upon deeper investigation, CCTV footage and other tracking methods led the police to identify and pursue the suspects as they attempted to flee the city. Meena was initially detained by the Salem police on October 4 for a similar scam and subsequently transferred to Urwa police custody in Mangaluru. Following his 13-day custody beginning on October 18, which included a thorough probe in both Mangaluru and Jaipur, Subhash Gurjar was apprehended on October 21.

Broader Criminal Network

The arrested individuals are allegedly part of a larger network, with involvement in at least 12 other high-profile cases. Their targets included high-end cameras, iPhones, and laptops, each costing over ₹10 lakh, with cases registered across states like Assam, Odisha, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala.

The seized assets, valued at ₹11.45 lakh, have been presented to the court as evidence, and investigations continue as authorities seek to dismantle this organized fraud operation.

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged embezzlement of Waqf properties. This demand follows findings from the Anwar Manippady committee's report, which reveals that while 54,000 acres of land are registered with the Waqf Board, approximately 29,000 acres have been misappropriated.

Capt. Chowta emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, stating, “A comprehensive probe should be conducted based on this report. Those who have illegally encroached on these properties must be held accountable.”

He challenged the Congress party, suggesting that if they genuinely care for the Muslim community and underprivileged women, their members should actively participate in the Joint Parliamentary Committee discussing the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024. This participation is essential to ensure that Waqf properties are used effectively for community welfare.

The MP criticized the notices served to farmers in Honvada village, Vijayapura, which stated that nearly 1,200 acres of their ancestral land was being reassigned to the Waqf Board. He expressed that this issue arose while the NDA government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is working on amendments to the Waqf Act. He accused the Congress-led state government, particularly Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan, of trying to enforce outdated 50-year-old notifications about Waqf properties. After the farmers raised concerns, Minister M. B. Patil clarified that the confusion was due to an error in the gazette.

Chowta alleged that Congress members in the Joint Parliamentary Committee are obstructing proceedings and causing disruptions. He expressed suspicion that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah might have instructed Minister Zameer Ahmed Khan to implement these outdated notifications regarding Waqf properties. As a result, he demanded the Minister's resignation.

He accused the Congress party of exploiting Muslim voters for the past 75 years without making substantial efforts for their welfare. Furthermore, he highlighted that the BJP is launching a campaign against land jihad, pointing out that the Waqf Board controls one of the largest land banks after the Defence and Railways sectors. Finally, he urged citizens to check the revenue records (RTC) of their land ownership to verify its status.
