Mangalore, March 16: Mangalore City Police have failed to make any headway in the sensational murder attempt on Karnataka Beary Sahithya Academy Chief Rahim Uchil even a day after the heart rending incident.

It is learnt that police, during last 24-hours, have questioned several people including his relatives, friends and members of some organisations. A couple of hours after Thursday's brutal attack, Bajpe police had taken two persons from their jurisdiction into custody. However, both of them were released later in the evening.

Though the CCTV camera installed at the adjacent building of Presidium complex, in which the office of Beary Academy is located, had captured the scene of assailants entering into the office, their faces are not visible. All the six miscreants had covered their faces with kerchiefs. The CC TV camera at the building in front of the Academy office also has captured the images but they are of low resolution and the zoom images are not seen clearly.

Mangalore City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has expressed confidence to nab all the culprits soon. “Three separate teams have been constituted under the leadership of three inspectors - Thilak Chandra, Vinay Gaunkar and Venkatesh Prasanna. They are also looking for a clue and are taking help of local shop keepers and residents”, he said.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Jagannath said that currently the probe was in progress in three different angles including religious and personal enmity.

Meanwhile, medical sources have said that Mr Uchil, who sustained severe injuries on neck, chest, hands and other parts of the body, was out of danger. “Though he is still in the intensive care unit, now he can speak” said a doctor.

According to Mr Uchil's wife Shahina it was God's grace that his life was saved. “I am a bit relieved now. I visited him in the morning and feel a lot better,” she said.

“He had received a threat call a month back. But I had not heard of any such things ever since. He generally would not speak about such things with me,” she said.

“He had a loud mouth. But he is not the person to take up a fight. He always helped people from our community. Our own people (Bearys) would come to him seeking some help or the other. We did not have many non-Muslim people coming to our place. But unfortunately, those people (Bearys) who sought his help talked ill of him from behind”, she said.

“He survived because he knew a trick or two to avoid such attacks. He must have used his arm as a shield when they came to slay his neck,” said a relative of him who was in the hospital.

Mr Uchil's marital life also saw some twists. Having married a second time there were many complaints against him. Recently there were rumours about a woman slapping him in Padubidri. But, he had denied the rumours, saying that it was a political conspiracy against him.

He was working as an Anchor in one of the local channels in the city. Mr Uchil was actively involved in BJP. He had struggled hard for the presidential post of the Beary Academy. Moreover, some of his recent statements following the Hindu Samajotsava in Uppinagady had sparked controversy.

Mangaluru: A heart-wrenching tragedy unfolded in the quiet Bellayuru village on the outskirts of Mangaluru as a man’s life ended on a railway track following an apparent double murder. Authorities from the Mulki police station identified the man as Karthik Bhat, 32, whose lifeless body was discovered on the tracks with his head positioned on the rail, indicating a tragic suicide.

Nearby, police recovered keys to a scooter and a house, which eventually led them to uncover a series of chilling events. Following the trail, officers located Bhat’s scooter parked near Mahammayi Temple. Inside the vehicle, they found documents confirming his identity, including an RC, insurance papers, and his driving license.

Their search continued to Bhat's home in Pakshikere, Kemral village, where they discovered a locked room. With the keys retrieved from the tracks, police unlocked the door, only to be confronted by a horrifying sight. The bodies of Priyanka (28) and her young son Hriday (4) lay in a pool of blood, pointing to a brutal murder that occurred just hours before Bhat’s suicide.

Initial investigations suggest Bhat, beleaguered by ongoing family disputes, committed the murders of his wife and son on the evening of November 8 before tragically ending his own life. A death note found in his diary hinted at his mental state and tragic intentions.

Priyanka’s family, residing in Shivamogga, was informed of the incident. The couple, married for six years, now leaves behind grieving relatives and unanswered questions. Police have initiated formal proceedings, collecting statements from family members as they continue their investigation into the tragic sequence of events.

Bengaluru, Nov 1: Hardline BJP leader and Vijayapura MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to "Nationalise Waqf Assets", alleging Waqf board of "blatant violation" in claiming of the lands of Farmers, temples and mutts.

Taking to his social media, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal posted on X, saying "I have written a letter to the hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji to Nationalize the Waqf Assets in view of the arbitrary, blatant violation in claiming of the lands of Farmers, Landowners, Temples, Trusts and Mutts across the country by the Waqf board. All the citizens of the country have equal rights on the land. If the motive of Waqf is welfare and social service, this has to be done without bias and religious discrimination as India is a secular nation."

Additionally, Vijayapura MLA also attached the letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his post.

Earlier, BJP MP Tejasvi Surya had accused the Waqf Board of encroaching on thousands of acres of farmers' lands with the support of the Karnataka government.

Surya stated, "There have been multiple press conferences and videos in the public domain where the Minister himself has admitted that these Waqf adalats are being conducted under the Chief Minister's instructions. This is a grave matter, where thousands of acres of farmers' lands are being encroached upon by the Waqf Board with the active support and collusion of the State Government."

He mentioned that, in recent days, farmers from various districts across Karnataka have reported that, without prior notice, ownership of their lands has been abruptly transferred to the Waqf Board.

Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge criticised BJP MP Tejasvi Surya, claiming he has done nothing for Bengaluru. Kharge's remarks came in response to the BJP MP's accusations regarding Waqf Board land encroachment.

The Congress leader assured that the Karnataka government is committed to protecting farmers' properties.

Kharge further questioned the BJP's record on protecting temples during its previous government, stating that the Karnataka government is committed to safeguarding temples and common people's properties.
