Mangalore, March 22: Honnamma, mother of Vittal, the first year student of Mass Communication and Journalism of Mangalore University, who was arrested by ANF for alleged naxal links, has decided to obtain permission from the court for her son to write his internal as well as semester examinations.
Ms. Honnamma approached Shiv Shankar Murthy, the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University on Wednesday, requesting him to allow her son to write his examinations although he is in judicial custody.
The Vice Chancellor said that although the University admits that Mr. Vittal is a student of good conduct, legal restrictions do not permit him to allow him to apply and write the exams since he is in judicial custody. He said that Mr. Vittal has to sign the application form for the examination personally and only if the court permits him can he write his exams.
An appeal will be filed by Ms. Honnamma in the court along with the time-table of Mr. Vittal's internal examinations to be held soon and his attendance details. According to Ms. Waheeda Sultana, Chairperson, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, Mangalore University, Mr. Vittal has 100% attendance in 3 papers and an overall attendance percentage of above 80%.
Mr. Vittal's internal examinations are scheduled to be held in the first week of April and semester exams are to be held in the first week of May.
