Mangalore, April 4: Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee will be undertaking a massive campaign in seven Legislative Assembly Constituencies of its jurisdiction to encourage the new generation to join the party in large numbers.
Announcing this at a press meet here on Wednesday, DKDCC President B Ramanath Rai said that most of the prominent state level leaders of the party would take part in the campaign which would be held from April 21 to 24 under the slogan 'Join Congress to Bring About a Change'.
“The campaign is aimed at strengthening the party by bringing the new generation into its fold”, he said.
Mr Rai said, on the first day of the campaign, a peoples' awareness rally and public meet would be conducted in Mangalore South Legislative Assembly Constituency. The very next day Congress workers' meet would be held in Mangalore and Bantwal Assembly Constituencies. On the third day, programmes would be held in Puttur and Sullia.
The Bantwal MLA said that recent developments have shown that people across coastal Karnataka have once again been inclined towards the Congress. The result of recently held election for Udupi-Chikmagalur Lok Sabha Constituency is another example for this change, he said. “The victory of Jayapraksh Hegde has given us more strength and we have resolved to continue our collective effort especially in twin districts”, he said.
Mangalore Mayor Gulzar Banu, former MLA Vijayakumar Shetty, KPCC Secretary Ivan D'Souza were present among others on the occasion.
