Mangalore, April 6: Good Friday was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm. Churches in the city were dazzling with bells clinging on ceilings, garlands and other glittering stuff.
Since morning, the Christian community thronged to the church to celebrate the occasion. After fasting for many days, large number of followers attended the service.
The Milagres Church at Hampankatta, was the main venue celebration with a recorded rush thousands of people.
This day reminds everyone that one in this world can escape sorrows, and everyone has to wear a cross. While some are wearing visible crosses, most wear the invisible ones.
"This day has special significance in our religion, so we have come here to pray to Jesus," says Manjitha Paul, a teacher.
Devotees in the church were singing hymns in praise of Christ, who sacrificed his life for the sake of humanity.
"Jesus was crucified not only on a wooden cross. He also wore the invisible crosses, as he saw these not as punishments but graceful opportunities. The Easter season is the time for fun and games, especially for children, but for many adults, it is also an occasion of contemplation," says Anil Noronha, a shop keeper.
