Manipal, April 6: The Kasturba Hospital will observe World Health Day for a week beginning April 7 with emphasis on preventive health.
In a press release issued here, Chief Operating Officer and Medical Superintendent of the hospital R.R. Pulgaonkar said a 30 per cent concession would be provided for preventive health check-ups at the hospital from April 7 to 14 to all those who wished to avail the facility.
Dr. Pulgaonkar said the hospital was extending this facility in keeping with the theme of the World Health Day this year. The theme is: “Good health adds life to years” with focus on ageing and health. “A number of packages have been listed to be provided for the benefit of the people,” he said.
A Health Day Special Assessment Screening Package for senior citizens (60 years and above) will also be available. The hospital will be offering organ specific screening packages for kidney, heart, liver and lungs.
There is a Special Screening Package for people with sleep apnea (snoring) as it can turn very risky for the patient. Complete health check-ups such as “basic”, “executive”, and “comprehensive” will be offered at concessional price during the week.
Eight out of every 10 deaths in India are caused by non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes in urban India. In rural India, six out of every 10 deaths are caused by NCDs, the release said.
