Mangalore, April 11: City dentist Dr. Mitra Hegde, who has been in the news of late for wrong reasons over the authenticity of her claim of being appointed as the dentist to the President of India, refused to comment on the issue and stormed off the press meet at Press Club in Mangalore on Wednesday.
Dr. Hegde appeared before mediapersons and aplologised for her 'counter statements that appeared in the press and media' adding that she has 'no intention of personally hurting members of the press or any one'. When mediapersons through their queries asked for explanations from her over the issue of her claims, she evaded them. Stating that she does not wish to comment on anything related to the issue at present and that she will give an explanation in the days to come, Dr. Hegde stormed off the press meet.
Following her departure, Gaurav Hegde, who had accompanied Dr. Hegde to the press meet and who claimed himself to be her well-wisher, returned to the Press Club to make the press meet payment.
When media persons tried to quiz him, he too evaded them and in a bid to rush off from the spot, physically hurt a media person.
The matter appeared to get serious and the police was contacted. Ultimately, a compromise was made between him and the media persons at the Barke police station.
Dr. Hegde has been making headlines ever since the Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi demanded the withdrawal of her Karnataka Rajyotsava Award backed by allegations that her claim of being a dentist to the President was false.
The Samithi had alleged that an RTI application filed by former secretary of the Karnataka State Branch of Indian Dental Association Dr Shiva Sharan seeking information about the dentist's claims had revealed that she never had treated the President of India.
