Addressing media persons at Press Club in Mangalore on Wednesday, Dr. Prem Alva, Consultant, Pediatric Interventional Cardiology, AJ Hospital, said that 10 out of every 1000 children are born with heart related diseases. “This camp is an opportunity for parents to conduct a free checkup of their children especially if they are showing signs of getting tired while running and playing, breathing problems, body going blue while crying, and other heart related ailments”, Dr Alva said.
He added that the hospital has now newer technologies of cardiac treatment especially for holes in the heart. “Today a hole in the heart can be fixed with advanced technologies that don't require an operation. The process lasts for hardly an hour and the stay at the hospital is barely for a day”,Dr. Marla said.
He also said that the hospital has been providing free checkups and treatments under various schemes meant for separate groups such as farmers etc.
