Mehnaaz, the eldest daughter of Kulai based Mohammed Ali and Mumtaz couple, had committed suicide by hanging herself at the college hostel on April 10. She was a second year student engineering student (biotechnology batch).
Holding the college management responsible for his daughter's death, Mr Mohammed Ali said that campus director Udayan and student welfare officer Farooq had harassed his daughter in the name of an inquiry after she tool four-day leave.
According to him, torture and mental harassment were the reason behind Mehanaz's suicide. “She had been to her friend's house for four days after taking my permission as the college had declared a holiday,” he added. She had been subjected to a four-hour-long inquiry twice at the college, where she was threatened that she would be debarred and accused of misusing college holidays, he alleged.
She was questioned at night without permission of her parents. The management tried to destroy evidence by misplacing personal belonging after her death, said her father who was in Saudi Arabia during the incident.
Konaje police have registered a case based on Mohammed Ali's complaint.
