Mangalore, April 16: The Belthangady JMFC Court has upheld Vittal Malekudiya's right to education by directing Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor Prof T C Shivashankara Murthy to permit Vittal, a first year Mass Communication and Journalism student, to appear for internal assessment examinations.
The decision of the Court comes four days after the fast track court in Puttur had rejected the bail plea of the 22-year-old tribal youth, who was arrested on March 3 along with his father at his house in Kuthlur in Belthangady taluk by Anti Naxal Force on charges of alleged links with Maoists.
The JMFC Court judge, who heard the petition on Monday, directed that the VC University call allow the student to appear for internal assessment examinations.
However, Mr Malekudiya could not appear for his first internal assessment examination, as it was held a couple of hours before the courts verdict. The examinations, which started on Monday, are expected to conclude on April 20.
It can be recalled here that the same court on March 26 had directed the University to allow the arrested student to file his examination application through an authorised person.
