Mangalore, April 19: An inter-State floodlight Daff singing and playing competition will be held on the premises of Government High School at Kukkaje in Bantwal Taluk on April 21 at 9 p.m.
Announcing this at a press meet Abdul Latheef Neralakatte, President, Daff Association of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, said, as many as, 13 Daff trainers from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi would be felicitated prior to the commencement of the competition at 7 p.m.
The former Minister B. Janardhana Poojary, MLAs U.T. Khader, B. Ramanatha Rai, and Abhayachandra Jain, and MP Jayaprakash Hegde will be the guests.
As many as 28 troupes have registered for the competition. Each troupe would be given Rs. 1,000 as honorarium.
The best performing troupes would be given mementoes and 15 members from each troupe would get individual prizes.
In addition, there prizes for best and second best singers would be given. Each troupe would be allowed to sing up to 11 minutes. A “souhardotsava” will also be held.
The competition is being organised under the joint association of the Daff Association of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and Friends Association of Kukkaje.
Abdul Razzak Kukkaje, President, Friends Association of Kukkaje and P M Ashraf, General Secretary, Daff Association, were also present in press meet.
