Attavar Ellappa birth centenary from May 4

Mangalore, May 1: The birth centenary of freedom fighter Attavar Ellappa will be celebrated in Attavar high school from May 4 to 6.

This was announced by office-bearers of the Swathanthrya Horatagara Barrister Attavar Ellappa Janma Shathamanothsava Samiti at a press conference here on Monday. A portrait of Ellappa would be unveiled on the occasion, according to Yogesh Bangera, director of the samiti. Suresh Kateel, secretary of the samiti, said the autobiography of the late Ellappa would be released on May 5. There would be a cultural programme in the evening.

A procession would be taken out at 3 p.m. on May 6 from Balmatta to Nehru Maidan where the valedictory function would be held in the presence of Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda and the former Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde.

“The aim of the three-day celebrations is to remember Ellappa and ensure that his contributions are not forgotten,” said Prabhakar Das Attavar, chief convener of the event and nephew of Ellappa.
