Jewellery worth Rs 29 lakh stolen from house

Karwar, May 1: Unidentified thieves broke into a house at Khursawada in Karwar in the intervening night of Sunday and Monday and decamped with the gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 29 lakh.

According to the police, the house belonged to Mary Dias whose family members had gone to Goa about three days ago.

It was suspected that the thieves must have observed the closed door for two days and struck on Sunday night.

They broke open a locker and disappeared with the jewellery, including a diamond necklace and some important documents.

A case has been registered at Karwar police station.
