Kasargod, May 6: Poor educational and infrastructure facilities have paved the way for the growth and expansion of terror networks in various parts of the world, Sri Lankan Commerce Minister Basheer Shaikh Dawood has said.
Mr. Dawood was addressing a public function after inaugurating the Saadiya Orphanage Handicraft Centre at Jamia Saadiya Arabiya at Deli, near here, on Saturday.
“There is an urgent need to set up more educational institutions that help students hailing from economically backward sections,” he said.
He lauded the efforts Saadiya educational institutions in helping the weaker sections of society.
Mr. Dawood promised to extend all governmental support if the Saadiya institutions came forward to set up schools for the poor in Sri Lanka.
There was an urgent need to develop educational institutions as they alone could impart value-based education, which in turn, would help prevent the marginalised sections of the society from being lured by the global terror networks, he said.
The handicraft centre was set up with the aim of equipping students with the expertise to make handicrafts to help them earn a living along with their academic career.
A.P. Abdulla Musliyar Manikoth presided over the function and many Muslim spiritual and political leaders were present.
