Mangalore, May 8: The authenticity of the data submitted by officials was questioned at a review meeting conducted by members of the Task Force for Implementation of the Third State Finance Commission's Recommendations on Tuesday at the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat premises.
When task force Chairman A.G. Kodgi sought to know whether the borewells listed as existing were functioning in the district, an official referred to successful operation of borewells in Kolnadu gram panchayat limits. The president of the panchayat, however, said that the claim was not true.
Subsequently, when the official stated that only a few water connections were yet to be fixed meters, a zilla panchayat member said three-fourth of the connections did not have metres in the district.
While an official said that the data was prepared after obtaining details from gram panchayats, ZP member Saraswathi Kamath said that it could be about five years old.
Mr. Kodgi said the officials were giving false data. He pointed out that the zilla panchayat did not know how many families were not getting water and what the district's requirement was. “Could you not think of collecting data regarding this all these years?” he said.
He urged the zilla panchayat to conduct a survey and prepare an authentic blueprint.
He wanted the officials to prepare action plans for development projects in the district on time.
