Kasargod, May 12: Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president Ramesh Chennithala has asked the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) to take necessary steps to check the activities of miscreants in the guise of so called 'moral policing' so as to prevent recurring communal violence in certain parts of the State.
The KPCC views with all seriousness the danger posed by those indulging in so-called “moral policing” and increasing intervention of hired gangsters, said Mr. Chennithala, who is on 'Sneha Sandesha Yatra', a five-day march to create awareness of the need to maintain communal harmony in the wake of recent incidents triggering tension in the district.
Communal tension instigated by both the majority and minority communities posed danger and promoting such designs would pave the way to weaken values in secular society. All secular forces should stand united to ward off threats posed by vested interests, he said at a press conference before commencing his march from Uppala to Kasaragod.
On the stand-off between Kerala Congress (B) leaders R. Balakrishna Pillai and K.B. Ganesh Kumar, the KPCC chief said the Congress was prepared to hold fresh talks with the leaders to resolve their differences.
