Belthangady, May 13: Stating that violent reactions will kill innocents, Pejawar Mutt chief pontiff Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji said that Naxal movement could be checked only through non-violence.
Interacting with the forest dwellers of Kudremukh National Park, at Malige mane in Sulkerimogru in Belthangady taluk on Saturday, he said that he will try to solve the problems related to Naxal movement after holding talks with the government.
He laid the foundation for the road and drinking water scheme which was taken up by the Pejawar mutt. He said that the work should be completed within a year.
He said the proposed Tiger project has made the people to worry over their future. The government should not implement any programmes that would affect the citizens.
Welcoming the Naxal surrender pacakge announced by the government, the seer said the Naxals should be brought to the mainstream of the society.
They should fight for their rights in a democratic set up.
He said four naxals surrendering in Chikmagalur is a welcome move. However, the government has failed to hand over land and sites for those who have surrendered before the police.
He said the police and forest department should work with the people and try to solve their problems.
Superintendent of Police Abhishek Goyal said that development work will be taken up in the region in association with the zilla panchayat. “If the Naxals come forward to surrender, then they will be given employment, housing facility. No one will be benefited from the Naxal activities. The Naxals should come out of the violent methods.”
