Mangalore, May 13: Society should create new breeds of medical scientists, who would set new standards of medical ethics in this new era of medical advances, said Seyed E Hasnain, member of Scientific Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister,
Delivering the convocation address of the Manipal University here on Saturday, he said that the curriculum required to be reinvented to achieve this goal.
Urging the students to think differently, he said a a culture of thinking needed to slowly emerge.
He said there were very “tight compartments in our present education system” that need to be broken and liberalisation of higher education was essential.
The convocation speech was followed by the distribution of awards to the gold medal winners, Ph. D holders, and other prizes.
Vice-Chancellor K. Ramnarayan gave an overview of the university. Ramdas M. Pai, Chancellor; H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor; Abdul Razzak and H. Vinod Bhat, both Pro Vice-Chancellors; G.K. Prabhu, Registrar; H.N. Udaya Shankar, Registrar (Evaluation); and Indira Bairy, Director (Student Affairs) were present.
