Mangalore, May 21: A meaning of social activists decided to drag the Mangalore City Corporation to High Court for its negligence in forming ward committees in the city on Sunday.
At the meeting organised by 'Namme Mane Namma Ooru' at Barathiya Vidya Bhavan, chief convener of the organisation B S Chandru said the MCC had failed to form ward committees in all the 60 wards even thought there were strict orders from the state government.
The MCC failed to respect the 15-years old order, he said adding that there was no other option except legal fight.
Nagarika Hitha Rakshana Samiti president Hanumanth Kamath said people would become more powerful if the ward committees functioned properly. People won't have to depend on corporators and the ward committee can monitor all works taken up and get the desired benefits, he added.
The ward committee will also help in the effective functioning of elected representatives, he stressed.
Consumer right activist Padmanabha Ullal hoped the legal fight would help the MCC remember its duties. He said the PIL would make chief secretary of the state, DK DC and MCC commissioner as the respondents.
