Mangalore, May 22: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has announced that a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh will be provided by the government for passengers killed in the train accident involving the Bangalore-bound Hampi Express travelling from Hubli to Bangalore that rammed a stationary goods train near Penukonda station in Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh today.
Speaking to mediapersons at the district BJP office in Mangalore on Tuesday, Mr. Gowda said that the injured passengers will be doled out Rs.25,000 from the state.
The Chief Minister who is scheduled to take part in the BJP Yuva Morcha's youth conference later in the day said that the government will soon take steps to introduce a youth policy in the state.
On the naxal problem in the district, Mr. Gowda said that a list of suggestions has been given to him by BJP Yuva Morcha which will be analysed and steps would be taken if needed.
A committee will also be formed to study the basic facilities and requirements in naxal affected areas and job opportunities for youth in the areas and submit a report to the government.
Mr. Gowda also said that allegations against Vittala Malekudiya, the tribal student who has been arrested by ANF, would be re-checked by officials.
He declined to comment on any query pertaining to former Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.
