Mangalore, May 23: Auto rickshaw drivers in Mangalore will go on strike between 10.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on May 25 to pressure the district administration and local authorities to notify more auto rickshaw parking stands in the city.
Revealing this to media persons at a press meet here on Tuesday, Ivan D'Souza, president of Mangalore Mahanagara Auto rickshaw Chalakara Sangha, said that the drivers would take out a padayatra at 10.30 a.m. from Urwa Stores to the office of the Deputy Commissioner, where a protest meeting would be held at 1 p.m.
On the way to the Deputy Commissioner's office, the protesters would halt in front of the Mangalore City Corporation office at 11.30 am, he said.
He said that there were about 5,600 auto rickshaws in the city. Although the government had identified more than 350 spots, it had notified only 75 auto rickshaw stands.
