Mangalore, May 24: A speeding Maruti Omni caused a series of crashes damaging five vehicles after its driver lost control over it while overtaking a goods lorry on a highway near Nanthoor junction, here on Thursday.
The people, who gathered at the spot, rushed the Omni driver, who was thrown out of his vehicle, to a private hospital for treatment. Hospital sources confirmed that he was out of danger.
The serial accidents occurred around 12:00 noon, after the Omni moving towards Nanthoor from the direction of Kottara, brushed past the goods lorry while overtaking it in front of Padua High School.
The impact of the crash was such that the Omni rolled off the one-way road violated the divider and turned turtle after entering the other side of the highway.
Within a couple seconds, a small tempo and a Bolero which were coming from opposition direction rammed into the suddenly intruded Omni one by one damaging it further.
When the three vehicles almost blocked the road, a speeding Innova car coming from the same direction could not avoid collision with Bolero.
In all, five vehicles were damaged in the bizarre accident. The Kadri Police have registered a case.
