Kasargod, May 27: At least four persons were injured in clashes between activists of the Congress and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) at Athrukuzhi in the Chengala panchayat limits near here.
The first of the clashes between the rival party workers occurred around 7.30 p.m. on Friday when a CPI(M) activist M. Manoj was allegedly manhandled by a group of Congress activists as he was walking in front of the Congress office.
The incident, said to be a sequel to an earlier skirmish, resulted in a counterattack by a group of CPI(M) activists, in which a Congress worker Anantharaj sustained stab wounds.
Later, in another attack by a group of Congress activists, a CPI(M) activist Venugopal and a Congress loyalist Sheena Naik sustained injuries. The injured were admitted to hospitals here, the police said.
The situation in the area was stable, they said.
