Kasargod, May 28: Union Minister of Human Resource Development Kapil Sibal will lay the foundation stone in July for the campus of the Central University of Kerala at Periye in the district, Vice Chancellor Jancy James has said.
However, the date of the programme was yet to be fixed, he said. The 310-acre land was formally handed over to the CUK by Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development E. Ahmed here on March 18, ending three years of uncertainty over finding a suitable location for the prestigious institution.
Efforts were on to hand over an additional 51 acres of land adjoining the identified area for the campus, State Education Minister P.K. Abdu Rabb had said at the function.
The CUK now functions from transit campuses at Nainmarmoola and Padannakad, and the commencement of work on Periye campus will trigger all-round development of the locality, which is in close proximity to the National Highway and Kanhangad where there is a railway station.
The CUK commenced its operation with two schools — the School of Language and Comparative Literature and the School of Global Studies offering postgraduate and M.Phil. courses in English and Comparative Literature and Economics.
