The arrested has been identified as Abdul Razak, a resident of Mulky. Gold jewelry and other valuables worth Rs 8 lakh have also have been recovered from the accused pertaining to six cases of theft in Mulky and Kinnigoli areas.
Police said he had murdered Lalitha Poojarthi (75) of Kolachekambala, while committing a burglary on November 18, last year.
“He had entered the house of Poojarthi with an intention to commit burglary and in the process he had killed her. The accused had robbed a pair of ear rings during the process. The ornaments have been recovered by the police”, police said.
The arrest came about after the Commissioner of police Seemanth Kumar Singh constituted a team under the supervision of ACP Puttamadaiah after receiving complaints about frequent thefts in that area. The recovered loot includes 250 grams of gold jewelry valued at Rs 7 lakh and Rs 41,240 in cash.
