Kasargod, May 31: The District Collectorate premises witnessed a mock fire drill here on Wednesday to test the preparedness of fire-fighting agencies in the event of a fire in the building complex.
A team of Fire and Rescue Services personnel, armed with fire-fighting equipment, fanned out on the collectorate premises after being alerted to an 'outbreak of fire.'
The fire fighters swung into action and swiftly doused the 'fire,' which was spreading fast.
The disaster management committee, which conducted the mock drill, evaluated the readiness of the Fire and Rescue Services personnel in tackling fires before the monsoon set in, official sources here said.
The fire-fighting operations were carried out under the supervision of the district fire fighting unit here.
Curious onlookers gathered on the Collectorate premises to watch the firemen wield equipment such as hydraulic cutter and strider, used for rescue operations, and Sanjeevani Life Detector, used to trace those trapped in buildings on fire.
Assistant Station Officer of the Kasaragod fire station A. Raveendran led the team of 10 fire personnel who took part in the mock drill.
The drill was witnessed by district panchayat president P.P. Shyamala Devi and other people's representatives and senior district officials.
