Mangalore, May 31: The day being an auspicious one, weddings are taking place in different auditoriums and marriage halls in the city in spite of the nationwide Bundh.
People did have to face a few inconveniences however. Kamalaksha, one of the invitees of a wedding, was seen walking to the marriage venue at Hotel Woodlands near Jyothi along with a group of about 15 people from the railway station.
“We came from Kumbla via train this morning and since we cannot see any auto rickshaw being available, we are all walking to the wedding venue”, a sweating Mr. Kamalakha said.
Many vehicles and buses ferrying people to wedding venues were seen sporting wedding boards to stay safe. “I had read in the papers that on the day of the Bundh, wedding vehicles must make sure that are identified easily. I have therefore used the name boards to ensure safety”, said Muhiyuddin of Ullal, who drove a contingent to the wedding venue of Rosario Hall in the city.
Buses and vehicles were seen at Kankanady flower market area in the morning being decorated as well.
People were seen asking for lifts in the absence of bus and auto rickshaw services. “I am looking for a car which would go to B C Road. Although I was aware of the bundh, I had thought government buses would be available. But they are not” said Majid of Udupi.
