Mangalore, May 31: Activists of CPI(M) and BJP held separate protests against the petrol price hike by UPA government in Mangalore on Thursday.
Activists of CPI(M) held a 'rail-roko' protest at the city railway station for 15 minutes. Speaking on the occasion, B Madahava, District Secretary, CPI(M), condemned the price hike and blamed the faulty economic policies of the UPA government. Stating that petrol is costliest in the state of Karnataka, he said that the state government must also reduce the taxes and create conveniences for the people.
Leftist leaders Sunil Kumar Bajal, Balakrishna Shetty, Jayanth Shetty, Dayananda Shetty were present among other CPI(M) activists.
The BJP on the other hand held a symbolic cycling protest against the central government's price hike. Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP along with other BJP leaders such as Capt. Ganesh Karnik, Shrikar Prabhu, and other BJP activists took part in the protest.
