Mangalore, May 31: A delegation representing auto rickshaw drivers of Dakshina Kannada district submitted an appeal to Dr. N S Chennappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner, Dakshina Kannada district on Thursday, demanding an increase in the minimum meter charge to Rs. 24 for every 1.5 kms and Rs. 16 for every 1 km.
In their appeal, the auto rickshaw drivers have mentioned that they had been facing problems and incurring losses in the backdrop of LPG rate increasing to Rs. 6 per litre a month ago. Petrol prices have been increased to Rs. 8 a week ago.
Expenditure in terms of repairs, spare parts, insurance premiums and other expenses also constantly bother auto rickshaw drivers.
In the wake of all these problems being faced by them, the Deputy Commissioner must order an increase in minimum meter charge, the appeal said.
