Mangalore, June 1: The entire police machinery is in the hands of saffron groups like RSS and Bajarang Dal, said P B D'Sa, President, People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL).
He was speaking at a demonstration held in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office by Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike (KKSV), Popular Front of India (PFI), Dalita Sangharsha Samiti (DSS), National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCOHRO), Protestant Christian Welfare Association and other like-minded organisations against the 'saffronisation of police department' on Friday.
The district administration too has encouraged saffron ideology in the region, Mr. D'Sa alleged. Stating that Dr. N S Chennappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner, DK, was seen wearing a saffron shawl at an RSS programme along with city police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, Mr. D'Sa said that the district does not need Mr. Gowda's services anymore. “It was said that an enquiry has been initiated in Mysore about the incident but all that is just eyewash”, he said.
Stating that police stations in the city are being run by saffron groups, Mr. D'Sa said that the RSS image on the DK police website has cleared off all suspicions in this regard.
The police are hesitating to touch the real perpetrators of the Pattabhirama Somayaji dung slinging incident, Mr. D'Sa said. “They caught a roadside goon for the assault but the real perpetrators are roaming free. They are being served tea in police offices”, he alleged.
Suresh Bhat Bakrabail, KKSV leader, said that a complaint with regard to the RSS image in police website had been sent to the Prime Minister, and other bodies such as the National Minorities Commission and National Human Rights Commission.
Pattabhirama Somayaji, activist, members of PFI and other likeminded organisations took part in the protest.
