Mangalore, June 2: No matter how educated a person is, he/she must have minimum knowledge about law, said Ashok G Nijagannavar, Chief District and Sessions Judge and President, DK District Legal Service Authority.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Legal Chariot' to create awareness among people, especially rural masses across Mangalore Taluk about laws. The campaign scheduled from June 2 to June 5, is being held under the joint auspices of the DK District Legal Service Authority, DK district administration, DK police, Mangalore Bar Council and other departments.
The campaign will help in ensuring that people obtain justice, Mr. Nijagannavar said.
Speaking on the occasion S P Chengappa, President, Mangalore Bar Council, said that the campaign will help in not only giving free advice to people on legal issues but also in solving cases which are pending in courts faster.
Dr. N S Chennappa Gowda, Deputy Commissioner, DK, Dr. K N Vijayaprakash, CEO, DK Zilla Panchayat, Seemanth Kumar Singh, Mangalore City Police Commissioner, were among those present.
New Court to be operational by December
The construction of new court premises has taken time. However, the court building is likely to be operational by December end, Mr. Chengappa told mediapersons on the occasion.
